Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)
Introduction :
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is an agency under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, established in 2002 under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. BEE plays a crucial role in promoting energy efficiency and conservation across industries, businesses, and households in India.
Objectives :

- Facilitate energy audits and the adoption of efficient technologies.
Key Programs & Initiatives :
1. Standards & Labelling Program
BEE’s Star Rating System helps consumers choose energy-efficient appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and LED bulbs, leading to energy savings and cost reduction.
2. Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT) Scheme
A market-based mechanism to reduce energy consumption in large industries through energy-saving certificates (ESCerts) trading.
3. Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC)
ECBC ensures energy-efficient construction practices in commercial buildings, reducing energy consumption.
4. State Energy Efficiency Action Plans
BEE collaborates with state agencies to implement energy-saving projects across different sectors.
5. Awareness & Training Programs
BEE conducts campaigns like “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – Energy Efficient India”, school programs, and industry training to encourage energy efficiency awareness.
